Cedar Community Apartments

Newark, CA

Cedar Community Apartments converted a 125-unit existing extended stay hotel that was temporarily being used as a shelter during the COVID pandemic into permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. The conversion used State of California Homekey funding, as well as local city funding.

This limited scope project focused on removing barriers to accessibility in the units, common areas, and throughout the site. Kitchenettes and bathrooms were renovated in the accessible units, common restrooms re-organized, and the site was modified to create accessible parking, sidewalks, and amenities. In addition, space was created on the site for additional supportive and administrative offices, to meet the needs of the residents and staff.
