This entitled new 45-unit rental cohousing community is located in the up-and-coming Uptown neighborhood of Oakland, CA. The community shares the site with an historic building that will be reinvented as a holistic health center. Units are primarily studios, one-bedrooms and quads (co-living units embedded within the cohousing community). Each floor functions as its own mini-community with a common room that includes a kitchen, dining area, lounge and flex space. Other amenities (such as a fifth-floor outdoor garden and second floor deck) serve all residents.
The cohousing residents will be well-supported through a partnership with OpenDoor, a leader in co-living community tenant engagement. Residents will self-manage the community and OpenDoor will assist them with workshops on consensus decision-making and in setting up common meal plans and other community activities.
