Homekey – Edes Avenue

Show Description

Oakland, CA

Edes Avenue is the conversion of a short-term hotel into permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness, using state Homekey funds. Permanent housing will be achieved by creating a communal kitchen, while maintaining the existing sleeping units. Sitework and common areas throughout will be renovated to create community amenities and supportive housing spaces such as an outdoor healing garden, community room, food pantry, as well as property management, service, and meeting rooms.

The property will also undergo renovations to address accessibility barrier removal, water intrusion damage, and systems reaching the end of useful life. Collaboration between the team members have focused on developing requirements, priorities, and budget adjustments to meet the needs of the residents and funding sources. As the property is currently operating as emergency housing, the team has also partnered on scope delineation between operations teams and construction, on-site tenant relocation, and phasing of the construction to limit the strain on the occupants.
